Opinions: Everyone's Got One!

Enjoy reading the blogs I follow in the early morning hours when my world is quiet and unintrusive. Since my youngest daughter is getting married next year several of the blogs I am following are about weddings. One particular blog was a definite eye opener. 600 + hate emails because a bride chooses to not have her father walk her down the aisle. Amazing. In the blog the bride was sharing her wedding planning process and her desire to make the day special. She did not think they fit the traditional mold. The couple had been living together for 5 years. He proposed to her while they were flossing. Obviously she did not feel it was appropriate or necessary for her Dad to give her away. Duh!! Kinda past that point don't you think? Anyway, nothing in the blog should lead someone to interpret her decision as being disrespectful to her Dad. The couple simply chose to walk down the aisle together. The father even made the statement that everyone would know who he was by his beaming smile.

I asked myself what about this couples decision could incite such an irrational reaction? The answer is nothing. What has happened to our ability to acknowledge a persons right to their own choices? Just because it is not a choice you would have made, does that make it wrong? Even if it is "wrong" that still does not give anyone the right to hurl verbal abuse. Somewhere we have forgotten how to appreciate each others differences. How to listen, state our opinions and if necessary agree to disagree. Obviously we have become a people of extremes. The anonymity of email should not give anyone the right to act in such an extreme manner. Disrespect is disrespect no matter where or how it is voiced. Whew too much caffeine. Someone must have brought the soapbox in the kitchen. Oh well, as I said- opinions- everyone's got one.

As my daughter and her fiance plan their wedding, I'll try to remember the words just written. (Look sweetie you've got it in writing.) Am so sure that one day I may be at my table eating these words while drinking my morning coffee and wiping the egg off my face. Totally can see this happening.

Wedding

My youngest daughter is getting married. So any tips, website, blog you have would be appreciated.

Why?

Empty space has always intimidated me. What words to use? Could there have been a better choice? Am I making any sense? Putting something on paper-filling in that empty space is worse than giving birth. So why torture myself? Because it is time. Technology, opportunity, availability and determination have collided with realization and it is now or never. So with baby steps-prepared to stumble I enter the world of blogging.
